Mustang sits at the intersection of State Highway 4 and State Highway 152, roughly five minutes south of I-40. East Highway 152 is the city’s dominant retail address — Mustang Shopping Center, Mustang Trade Center and Mustang Marketplace all carry SH-152 addresses — with Mustang Road running north through the civic core past City Hall.
Two things shape the pavement picture here. Mustang has grown more than 23% in five years, so a lot of asphalt in this city is young enough that protecting it now is far cheaper than rebuilding it later. And the Chamber puts Mustang’s trade area at nearly 70,000 people — roughly ten times the resident base — which means retail and church lots absorb traffic from Tuttle, Union City and the surrounding county, not just from town.

Mustang’s builder guidelines require two hours’ notice for all concrete inspections, and all concrete must be inspected before pouring. Reinspection carries a fee that escalates with each visit. Anything below grade must bear the seal of an Oklahoma registered engineer. The city also runs a dedicated Commercial Driveways & Flatwork review through Community Development, so approach work is worth a call before it is scheduled rather than after.

Why Oklahoma is hard on asphalt
NOAA's 1991–2020 climate normals for Oklahoma City record 71 days a year at or below freezing, of which only about eight stay below freezing all day. That leaves roughly sixty days when pavement crosses the freeze line in both directions — and it does that against average July highs of 94°F and about 36.5 inches of rain a year. Water gets into a crack, freezes, expands, and levers it wider. Then the summer bakes the binder out of whatever the winter opened up. That cycle is why sealcoat and crack sealing are maintenance here, not cosmetics.
