Midwest City has the heaviest commercial base of any suburb we serve. Tinker Air Force Base — the largest single-site employer in Oklahoma — borders the city, and the aerospace and defense work around it brings Boeing, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce into the local economy. Industrial and institutional lots fail differently than retail. Loading areas, dumpster approaches and truck routes take concentrated axle load in a few places rather than light load everywhere, so the repair map on these properties tends to be a handful of hard-working sections rather than a uniformly tired lot.

Local requirements
The city advises that commercial permit plan review usually takes up to 14 working days once a complete submittal is in. Community Development sits on the second floor of City Hall at 100 N. Midwest Boulevard. For maintenance work that does not trigger a permit — most sealcoating and restriping — that timeline is not in play, but it is worth building into any project that touches drainage, grading or the lot footprint.

Why Oklahoma is hard on asphalt
NOAA's 1991–2020 climate normals for Oklahoma City record 71 days a year at or below freezing, of which only about eight stay below freezing all day. That leaves roughly sixty days when pavement crosses the freeze line in both directions — and it does that against average July highs of 94°F and about 36.5 inches of rain a year. Water gets into a crack, freezes, expands, and levers it wider. Then the summer bakes the binder out of whatever the winter opened up. That cycle is why sealcoat and crack sealing are maintenance here, not cosmetics.
